Dr. Wax

Randy Wax, MD, MEd, FRCPC

Dr. Wax is a specialist in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital.  He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. His clinical and research interests include management of cardiac arrest, special resuscitation situations including Protected Code Blue during biohazard events, disaster preparedness, transport medicine, and crisis training in unique environments (such as hyperbaric chambers and during flight).  He is a critical care consultant physician for Ontario's Emergency Medical Assistance Team.  

Dr. Wax has many years of experience in resuscitation education and use of high-fidelity simulation for teaching health care providers.  He is certified as a Medical Director for Advanced Cardiac Life Support training by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.  Dr. Wax is one of the first Master Simulation Instructors for the Canadian Resuscitation Institute, and is the course director for the Critical Care Response Team course offered to nurses and respiratory therapists from across Ontario.  He has a Master of Education degree from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto. 

Dr. Wax has received numerous awards for excellence and innovation in education. He has also published many papers and book chapters related to resuscitation education and clinical resuscitation, including those published in journals such as the CMAJ, Critical Care Medicine, Current Opinion in Critical Care, and Prehospital Emergency Care. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences.  Dr. Wax also provides consultations to many hospitals and other organizations for issues related to patient and staff safety, design of resuscitation procedures and systems, and critical event analysis.
