What should I wear?
You will be actively trying to resuscitate our simulated patients. Comfortable clothing is a must. Scrub suits are not recommended but acceptable. A stethoscope is a required fashion accessory, as you will need to examine simulated patients during resuscitation scenarios.
Do I need to pack a lunch?
No. There is a refrigerator available to keep lunches cold, if you choose to bring your own lunch. There is a cafeteria and a Tim Horton's coffee shop next to our PREPS Learning Centre. There are many restaurants nearby, including some excellent ones on Baldwin Street behind the hospital. We provide coffee/tea/bottled water throughout the course, along with light refreshments.
Where should I park?
There are two paid parking lots behind the hospital on Murray Street. Be careful to keep all valuables out of sight to deter thefts.
I'm taking the subway. Where should I get off the train?
The hospital is located between Queen's Park and St. Patrick stations. Either station is a close walk to the hospital.
Do I get a receipt?
Yes, you will receive a receipt for your course tuition at the end of the course.
What happens if I fail the course?
You can't "fail" our courses. Our instructors and course directors attempt to identify any course participants who are experiencing difficulty as early as possible. Remedial efforts will be made during the course. In the event that a participant does not meet our internal or externally mandated standards for successful course completion, the course director will develop a learning plan for the student that will lead to success. If after these efforts, a student is still having trouble, PREPS will arrange for a repeat attempt to complete the course at no charge after the student has made the necessary efforts to address any issues identified by the course director.
What happens if I cancel my registration or don't show up for the course?
Students reserve a slot at a course once payment has been received by PREPS. We cannot book another student for the course unless your cancel your registration with enough notice. If you notify us that you want to change course dates or cancel your registration 15 or more days before the course, we will accommodate your request without penalty. If you make such a request closer than 15 days to the course date, we will retain 50% of the tuition cost as compensation for preventing another student from taking the course. If you do not show up on the date of the course without prior notification to the PREPS office, no refund will be provided. In the event of an unexpected catastrophic event, PREPS will consider waiving penalties and will allow rescheduling of the course to another date, but will not provide any refund beyond that described above. |
